Coping with Grief During the Holidays.

Soon Christmas songs will fill the airwaves hailing "the most wonderful time of the year." Do the songs get earlier every year or do we just notice it when your moods are low? If you find yourself having difficulty listening to the greetings this year, you are not alone. Many people find that anticipation of the holiday is more difficult than the day itself.

Perhaps meeting with others who have experienced the loss of a loved one would be helpful. Please consider our upcoming support group, Coping with "Grief During the Holidays" at Hope Hospice.

The sessions will be held on Thursdays from 6:30-9:00 pm on November 8, 15, 29, and December 6, 13, and 20. Grieving should not be done alone and we can best be healed when we talk with others who are on a grief journey.

If you are interested in coming to our group, please contact Linda at 412.367.3685.

Bereavement Program

Grief, the normal reaction to loss, can impact all areas of our lives for a very long time. The Hope Hospice Bereavement Program offers opportunities to develop a better understanding of grief, learn healthy coping skills, and share feelings with others who are experiencing loss. It is not necessary to be a family member of a Hope Hospice patient to participate.

Hope Hospice staff is available throughout the course of care to assist patients and family members with issues of grief and loss. Bereavement services are offered to the family following the patient's death and include:

  • Grief counseling
  • Telephone support
  • Personal mailings
  • Bereavement support groups
Referral to professional counseling as needed
